Community House is committed to closing the minority achievement gap in Princeton by providing programs that bolster early childhood literacy, promote the mastery of fundamental academic skills, and create early awareness of post-secondary opportunities for underserved minority youth. Through collaborative partnerships with the Princeton Regional Schools and other local agencies, Community House works to ensure that these students are able to realize their academic dreams.
Community House programs are managed and implemented by undergraduate volunteers from Princeton University. They provide tutoring and mentoring for students from preschool through high school, as well as after-school enrichment and summer programs in math, science, reading, and writing for middle school and high school students. Community residents are also welcome to serve as volunteer tutors at the Community House After School Academy (CHASA), which serves middle school and high school students during the academic year, and in the SAT Prep program. Community volunteers make an important contribution to CHASA by supporting continuity in programming when Princeton University students are on break but area schools are still in session. |
