FAQsDo I have to be a Princeton University student to volunteer?
No! We welcome and encourage community members to join us, particularly during times when the University is not in session. How many hours a week will I be expected to volunteer? Are there any opportunities for volunteering during the weekends? Most projects require between 2-4 hours of volunteer assistance per week, with many opportunities for volunteering off-campus. What if I'm not good in a subject I'm asked to tutor? Don't worry, Community House programs are focused on mastering key academic and study skills. CH anticipates that any undergraduate will have the background necessary to help the child on his or her way to mastery of the subject, and if not, then there are always other volunteers and staff members around to help you out! What age groups will I be working with? You can have the opportunity to work with any age from preschool through high school seniors. Are all projects on campus? While most activities are located here at Community House, there are various opportunities for off-campus involvement, such as the Preschool Program and Generation One. I've never tutored or mentored before. Will I be trained? Absolutely! Each semester there is a general volunteer training for all volunteers, with more specific training for each project. |
