Other TripsBrooklyn College Awareness Program
Volunteer at two inner-city High Schools in Brooklyn over Fall and/or Spring Break. Princeton volunteers spend a week at the Paul Robeson and AOIT High Schools in Brooklyn sharing their college application experiences with High School seniors and juniors during peer to peer sessions. By sharing their own college application experiences, volunteers encourage students at high schools with very low college application and acceptance rates to apply to college. Over the course of the program many students have chosen to apply to college and Princeton volunteers spend the rest of the week, assisting these students with their applications notably with selecting schools and crafting essays. Volunteers also have the opportunity to get involved with Brooklyn life and sub-culture via various group activities and excursions. Mandatory training sessions and trip preparation meetings are organized in the weeks before the program begins in November and in March. The first training session is on the evening of September 28 2012. If you are interested and have questions, email [email protected], or fill out this form to participate. |
Religious Diversity and Service in New York City
Princeton's first interfaith education and service trip will lead participants through neighborhoods of New York City exploring religious diversity and faith-based service initiatives in an urban setting. This trip is a collaboration between the Office of Religious Life and the Pace Center for Civic Engagement, for students who identify as religious or secular; it's an experience that's beneficial for both, and everyone in between, to learn about other faiths and how faith and secular ethics act together to give back to communities. Participants will have the opportunity to volunteer with hands-on service projects, speak with religious leaders and community organizers, visit places of worship, and explore the dynamic neighborhoods of New York. We'll learn about religious diversity through community narratives, about how different faith traditions approach service, and about community organizing and interfaith organizing in this diverse city. Participants will also have the opportunity to safely explore and enjoy New York. Price: The cost of this trip will be $250, which includes all travel, lodging, food, and miscellaneous expenses. |
